Chinese ministry saves US$320,000 via HD video conferencing

http://www.futuregov.asia/articles/2011/sep/23/chinese-ministry-saves-us320000-video-conferencing/

This is great to see a wider adoption of video conferencing across Government departments in China. Most Governments around the world today use this technology for meetings and conferences to reduce time and costs associated with travel.

Let's not forget that Telepresence can be used in multiple ways and bring additional benefits to both government agencies and constituents. Internally, such visual communication collaboration tools are used for enhanced Department Collaboration, Awareness and Communication, Mobility and Home Working, Education and Training, Programme Management, and Continuity of Operations.

In fact the real value of Telepresence is unleashed only when Governments make their infrastructure and systems available to constituents and other jurisdictions to:

1 - Increase access, equity and quality of Government Services to citizens and businesses (Civil, Education, Health, Social, Justice, Trade…);

2 - Improve emergency management process in times of crisis (Natural Disasters, Pandemics, Man-made Disasters, Acts of Terrorism…);

3 - Enhance justice systems, inmate services and ex-offenders re-entry resulting in less pending cases and lower recidivism rate;

4 - Strengthen national security at home and abroad.

I would like to invite the readers to share their experience in using video conferencing or Telepresence (high definition video conferencing) and how it has benefited not only their organization but also citizens and enterprises nationally or locally.

Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Re: Chinese ministry saves US$320,000 via HD video conferencing

The key message from the MOST is echoed by other Government and public sector users globally; the speed and quality of communication which will benefit the delivery of citizen services.  Regardless of boarders or language, the ability to react quickly without distraction by quality or use issues, is key.

The UK has another Government example, this time with communication between a Police force:

We live in an internet age. I intend to grow old with it.
