I have installed the 4.0.2B release on a Spectralink 8440. Everything works fine on the SIP side of thing and the presence is working as well.
The only problem is now dialling as a phone, whatever I enter the Spectralink dials as if it is a SIP only call. I realise that it must be SIP to the Lync but it should then dial from the Lync via our Audiocodes IP-PBX. Our Polycom desk phones CX500 and CX600 work fine. I have put a trace up and the Spectralink appear to dial using our SIP naming convention for example 123456@<email SIP domain>, this gets no matches so fails. I was expecting the device to media bypass to the IP-PBX.
What am I missing! Its driving me nuts!

Hello VioletFerret,
welcome to the Polycom Community.
I am unsure what your setup is like.
You mentioned LYNC and SIP. Is your 8400 Phone registered to a LYNC Server or to a SIP Server as you mention the CX Phone range.
The 8400 can be setup on a LYNC Server and this is in detail described => here <= and is working fine and I have tested this myself in my own lab passing calls between the CX Phones, LYNC Communicator and a 8400 Phone.
Best Regards

I have the unit set up with Lync and all functionality on Lync is working fine.
The problem is the telephony part. Do I have to set this is independantly? It is a wifi unit and as I understand the other CX units they connect via the Lync server and the server connects to the IP-PBX, the IP-PBX has the required E1 card in it for telephony. The CX units dial fine but I cannot make a call on the Spectralink handset it always dials as if its a lync call putting the number I dial before the SIP domain address.
How would I go about setting up this handset to work in the same manner as the CX units in that they can make Lync calls (using the SIP address of the user) as well as being able dial dial using the IP-PBX telephony functionality. Do I need a seperate service associated with the device?
Many thanks
VF

Hello VioletFerret,
I am still not 100% sure what you are after.
The above link that I highlighted explains in very detail how to setup the Unit to register as a LYNC User and you will be able to just dial either an extension of an internal LYNC Device or an external Phone number.
There are plenty of explanations within the Spectralink or the VoIP Section explaining the dial plan / digitmap.
If you are still struggling you should consider contacting your Polycom Reseller and/or Polycom Support may be contacted but a PPI (Pay per Incident) Fee may occur.

Whenever I dial a phone number regardless of format I always get the busy tone. Looking at this blog post: http://blog.schertz.name/2012/04/extension-dialing
Regardless of the change from the blog I am in the same situation, Lync calls work but telephone calls do not. Just the same old busy tone.

Hello
I have replied => here <=
Jeff is a Polycom Employee that host's his own Blog.
New Features or Changes are always highlighted in the Release Notes => here <=
76730 Added support for Lync normalization rules and dial plans.
It is a common practice to change / add Features and highlight new/changed Parameters within the Release Notes only until a new Version of the Admin Guide is provided for major releases.
I will follow up with the Product Management Team to provide or add additional Information regarding this change but in the mean time please see this post => here <=
I can only recommend to work with your Polycom Reseller to bring this to the attention of Polycom Support in order to verify that your Spectralink Handset is setup correctly and is dialing the full E.164 Number as designed.

Is there a routable mediation server available to the phone for Enterprise Voice calls or are you utilizing media bypass or in a branch office scenario?
The current 4.0.x software does not support Microsoft ICE/STUN/TURN for Edge media relay so if the phone cannot negotiate media directly to a mediation server then calls to the PSTN via a Mediation Server will not function. Media Bypass is also not yet supported so the same limitation holds true of the phone is in a network where the CX devices are sending G.711 media directly to a media gateway.
This limitation will be addressed in a future release of the software and the Edge Server will be supported for all media relay call scenarios.

I have managed to get the phone dialling using telephony rather than Lync.
For those interested here is some feedback from a UK user. The spectralink I purchased for testing came with a US digitmap. The downloads for software updates from the Polycom site do not provide an alternative digitmap/dialplan in the configuration for other countries and you have to alter them by hand in the cfg files as you would expect.
Lync will only accept numbers in the E.164 format so you have to provide the + sign the various national/region codes and the number all in the digitmap to provide the correct number that Lync will then use as its telephone number. There are details on how to do this elsewhere in the forums and in various guides around the Internet including Polycoms documentation ( eg http://support.polycom.com/global/documents/suppor
Also worth pointing out, you have to alter both the dialplan.1.digitmap entry for the Lync application support as well as the dialplan.digitmap entry or the phone will still prevent dialling.
As it stands I have some of the dialling working for the UK but I am struggling on national and international numbers. In the UK national numbers begin with the area code starting with a 0 eg. 01625 or 0800. I have tried using the following code but it is not working: R0R+44R[1235789]xxxxxxxxxx
The documentation covers removing numbers by entering a R and then the number to remove, in this case zero. The next section should be added after the removal thus making +44[1235789]xxxxxxxxxx which should cover all area codes and numbers. Currently this fails and the number goes without removing of zero or adding of +44 occuring. If I just try using mobiles (beginning 07): R07R+447Rxxxxxxxxx This works. Any ideas? My current dialplan is attached.
Emergency 99 (Works)
RR+R[9]99S0
Line Services (Works)
RR+R[1]xx.
Local Dialling (01778 area code) (Works)
RR+441778R[2-8]xxx.
National Dialling (Does Not Work)
R0R+44R[1235789]xxxxxxxx
International Dialling (Does Not Work)
R00R+Rxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Above National Dialing simply only allows additional 8 Digits to be dialed after the predefined range from 1 till 9 (missing 4 & 6)
If you want to dial a typical UK Number like 0207 123 45678 you are simply missing the relevant amount of x
This is covered in the Admin Guide describing the Digitmap in detail.
The same applies to your International rule as it won't allow to cater for the required digits.
Can I simply refer you to the VoIP FAQ => here <= as this covers a multitude of questions that may be of interest to yourselves.
I can only stress the importance of checking Logs (either LYNC Server or the Polycom Phone) before posting as you could have seen that your digitmap simply does not allow you to add all the digits that you wish to dial.
Your Polycom Reseller should be contacted for any Tier 1 issues regarding basic programming.
The US Dialplan has been a day one setup in the Polycom SIP/UCS Software and to cater for every single country would simply be impossible.
