Hello,

We have HDX 6k and 7k set up in our LAN and they are configured to use DHCP (only IPv4). We have set the host name under "LAN properties" as "es-mdr-vcd0". The "Domain Name" and "DNS Servers" fields are filled automatically by DHCP server, the "Domain Name" field gets set to "big.local" (this is also configured as Domain Name in our server). From those, the HDX machine generates the device name "es-mdr-vcd0.big.local" and sends it to DNS server. But our DNS server appends "dyn.big.local" automatically to this (this suffix is added to all host names, which request for address from DHCP). And the complete name, which is accessible from network, becomes "es-mdr-vcd0.big.local.dyn.big.local". This for us seems incorrect, as our logic says it should be just "es-mdr-vcd0.dyn.big.local". For example all our PC's which are configured for DHCP, get names such "pc1.dyn.big.local", "laptop3.dyn.big.local", etc.

Is this behavior in HDX 6k/7k by design, or is this a bug? Is there a way to tell the machine to not use Domain Name in its host name?

best regards,

Lauri Paas

I'm seeing a similar behaviour to this and wondered if a solution was ever found for this. What I'm seeing is that I enter a host name and leave the domain name blank. The HDX successfully registers with the DHCP server and gets an IP address assigned along with a domain name. The next time the HDX goes to renew the DHCP lease it then passes the host name along with the domain name attached and gets regitered with the DHCP server with a fully qualified name as the host name (with the dots in it). When DHCP goes to push this to DNS it adds on the domain name and the name format becomes invalid and so DNS no longer publishes a record for that address.

It seems that there is a bug in that the HDX shouldn't be including the domain name on the DHCP request. It should just pass the hostname.
