I have inherited a number of VSX 8000 units that seem to only support skinny / SCCP.  Even through a system reset, they only come back with SCCP in the wizard options.

1.  Are there skinny only versions of the VSX 8000?

2.  Is is possible to apply new software to allow IP calls with these units?

I know I can setup call manager to make IP calls, but I'd prefer to have the units act as standalone IP units if possible.

A system reset will not remove the SCCP software, you would have to do a complete ERFL (Erase Flash Memory). This can be done via a telnet command or when running a software reload you would have to choose custom and have the system do the Erase Flash/reload.

Thanks.  I tried using the softupdater, but the program just hangs after I enter the IP address and remote access password.  Are the instructions for ERFL with telnet somewhere on the support site?

Please see the attached doc for VSX ERFL instructions. Keep in mind once you run this process there will be nothing left including system software. You will however be able to get into the boot utility screen to verify IP address. To do this, once the ERFL process is complete, power off the codec. Before you power back on, hold the 0 button on the remote control while pointing at the codec, power on the codec from the blue button on the front. The boot utility screen should come up in the matter of a few seconds.
