We have a problem with our SoundpointIP 450 phone. These phone are configured to connect on  an Asterisk server located on the Internet.

When we have an Internet downtime, most of the time the registration fail with the error 480 Temporary Unavailable.

The problem is that when the connection is restored, the phone never tries to re-register.

When we do a phone restart, sometimes the phone will be able to register, sometime we need to do a full reboot.

Is there a way to ensure the phone will be able to recover from an Internet connection loss without having to reboot them ?

We are using Boot version 4.4.0.0080 and App version: 4.1.84959

I attached the messages I got in the logs on the polycom phone. I replace the dns of our server by asdf.com in the log for security reason but I ensure that the dns is good.

Thanks

Hello,

The logs look like a DNS issue. Have you tried reducing the registration timer and increasing UDP timeout?

Thanks,

Andrew

The DNS issue probably occurs while the internet connection is down.

The real problem is that when I get the 480 Temporary not available message, the phone does not retry until next reboot.

So you don't even see a registration attempt being made by the phone after the internet comes back up? 480 indicates a problem with the receiving end or with your configuration.

Correct, one I have the 2 following line in the log:

0717134417|sip  |4|03|Registration failed User: 1604, Error Code:480 Temporarily not available
0717134445|app1 |*|03|Ctx [0] Registered [false]

Nothing else is written in the log util I reboot the phone. Like if the phone was stuck somewhere and didn't know what to do next.

I was expecting that the phone will retry the registration once every X minutes after that.

Hello all,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Just a quick reminder that UCS 4.1.0 B, 4.1.0 I and 4.1.0 M are all LYNC only releases and have not been fully tested with open SIP servers.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

What version should I use then to see if the problem is with that version ?

Do you expect to release a new version of the formware that fully support open SIP Server ?

HP Recommended

Hello Alex,

the Open SIP for the SoundPoint / SoundStation / Duo range is still UCS 4.0.4 at present.
