I currently own a polycom soundstation 7000.  I have 2 external mics connected.  Since I've had the phone, users on the other end have complained about horrible, muffled sound.  The only way for the user to hear you is to be right up on the microphone.  This has been a common issue and I'm not sure what we can do to fix.  If a user is walking around the room speaking, its almost impossible for the users calling in to hear.  I can't find any sort of sound guide to see if there are setting to help reduce the echo, etc.  If anyone has any advice, please let me know.  Our conference room is not very big.

Yeap.  I have 2 externals.  Doing the audio test from the phone confirms they work.
