I'm trying to upgrade an older VVX1500 to a newer version of the Open SIP firmware. I've tried versions as early as 3.2.3 and bootblock 2.9.0 in order to get it to a place where I could update to the 5.X versions.

I think this is the root of my problem:

0528164216|copy |3|00|'tftp://10.120.4.11/sip.ld' from '10.120.4.11'
0528164216|cfg |3|00|New load header information:

0528164216|cfg |3|00|Code check Sum: 0x09DA2E6C
0528164216|cfg |3|00|Options: 0x00000080
0528164216|cfg |5|00|Error: file does not contain a compatible image
0528164216|cfg |5|00| Compatibility for image 0 is 0x500000
0528164216|copy |3|00|buffered_write: transfer terminated
0528164216|copy |3|00|Download of 'sip.ld' succeeded on attempt 1 (addr 1 of 1)
0528164216|cfg |3|00|Downloaded application image is incompatible
0528164217|app1 |4|00|Application sip.ld is not is not compatible with the phone.

The phone has a manufacture date in 2009 and bears a Windows CE sticker.

It is possible to update this phone to anything close to the 5.X series of firmware?

Hello relix,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

You must read this document => here <= and modify the 000000000000.cfg as shown in the document. You must use SIP version 3.2.2. from => here <=

You can safely then upgrade to 5.1.x and need to follow these steps => here <= to go all the way up to the latest.

Hi Steffen,

This are the pages and procedures I've been using. It appears that the phone won't try the bootblock upgrade unless it finds a sip.ld file that it is happy with. (I've even tried reordering the <mac_address>.cfg file to list the bootblock fitst.) The log file shows that it tried the sip firmware, said the image doesn't match, and then appeared to stop processing.

Is there a sip.ld or compatible file for the WIndows CE phones that will allow the phone to go past the APPLICATION portion and into the bootblock portion of the config file?

Thanks,

Hello relix

Have you selected the menu as described in detail in the guide so the VVX will actively look for the BootBLOCK ?

If you do not do this it will not load it.

The phone is unfortunately nearly 8 years old and has never been upgraded so if you cannot get the guide to work with the compatible software there is not a lot we can do.

The only other reason for the phone to reject the SIP.ld is if it is running a development software which means it is Polycom property anyway.

The phone was purchased from ebay so whether or not its Polycom property I don't know.

As to the bootblock and the button press, perhaps I read the docs incorrectly, but I understood that you could do either the local button press method or specify the bootblock on a central provisioning server.

Have I misunderstood?

Thanks again for all the help!

Hello relix

when the phone boots up do you see a 8 or 7 second countdown or a 99 second one?

If 99 it is a Polycom Dev signed phone that is Polycom property.

Anything else it should load the BootBLOCK automatically but doing it manually may help.

So far I have not seen any logs yet showing the phone attempting to download a BootBLOCK.
