In a DMA -CMA-VBPE environment,  I see documentation that speaks of CMA as the Gatekeeper and other documentation that speaks to the DMA being the Gatekeeper.

Is there benefits of one over the other?

It appears, as of today's versions, CMA should act as the device manager and provide CMA-D.  Does having a DMA Supercluster change the best practice deployment at all?

Hi,

From a simple design standpoint, there really is not major difference in one gatekeeper over another. The major decision of which gatekeeper to use comes down to the use of the super cluster feature which you mentioned. CMA does not support geographical separation, but the DMA does. Basically geo-separation is the super cluster feature in DMA. This will give you more efficient control over bandwidth use from a global standpoint view. It doesn't make sense for all clients to transverse network pipes half way around the global to make a P2P call. With a regionalized DMA placement, if WAN links go down, calls are still able to flow in each of the sites.

Because of this very issue, the CMA is going to be marketed to small businesses. The current roadmap includes the DMA as the gatekeeper with device monitoring and alerting assigned to the next generation Real Presence Resource Management application due out very soon. This will be positioned for larger video deployments.

I hope this helps,

S.
