Hello,

Recently our RSS2000 stopped responding via the internet. We had it racked at an off-site location. So I brought it back to the office to do an overview of it. First thing I noticed when I plugged it in is that it started to beep. It has a constant beep for ~5 seconds, then a few seconds of just fan noise, then the beep again. I didn't notice this when I was disconnecting it at the off-site location, but it was in a noisy server room so its possible I just couldn't hear it.

Does this beep signify anything that will assist in my troubleshooting? I currently have the mindset that the unit is dead, its 5+ yrs old, but if I could somehow get some additional life out of it..my superiors would like that.

Thanks.

After taking a peak inside, I think the RSS 2000 has a Phoenix bios. I looked up the beep codes for Phoenix but none of their codes match the type of beep I am getting. It is a beep that is constant for 5-seconds then a few seconds of silence and then it beeps again. It is constant, and not just during POST. I have gotten access to the VGA input after opening the case up. I hooked it up to a monitor but am getting no output. I also got no response from the serial port. Is it likely that the board is dead? Pretty upsetting since this thing was manufactured just 3 yrs ago.

Hello jcookhwr,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Like everything manufactured we cannot prevent a device from failing. The only advise I can give you is to work via your Polycom reseller to bring this to the attention of the Polycom Support.

Thanks for the reply. I relooked up the expected life cycle and it was around 3-5 years so it did fulfill its expected life. Looks like its just time for replacement.
