BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Good Morning,

I will try to be discriptive as possible to help everyone answer my problem. We are testing SfB Cloud PBX, I have 2 Polycom Phones. A VVX 500, and a 501 SfB edition. I have created a provisioning server to push out a config file via FTP over DHCP Option 160, which is working fine. In this config file I have set 2 parameters to enable BToE by default.

feature.btoe.enabled="1"

btoe.pairingMode="Auto"'   (I do not want to use pin pairing, I want it to be Automatic)

Both phones take the shared config file and process all 38 lines without any errors, I have verified this by looking at Platform > Status > Configuration on the phone.

Now the VVX 500 phone works as desired, the 501 will not enable btoe and the paring mode defaults to "Manual" forcing me to manually change the settings. I can replicate this by factory resetting the phone using 1,3,5 key combination. My concern is getting this fixed before I purchase almost 200 more phones.

Additonal Information

Both phones are running 5.5.0.23374 UCS

Using BToE 3.4.2

I searched the forums for similar problems before opening my own thread.

Re: BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Hello cdodge,

as already mentioned in my original reply:

  • The Cloud PBX can force the phone to use settings from the Cloud and BToE is deactivated as a standard. Source => here <=

This means whatever the Call Server sends via the Inbound Provisioning has a higher priority.

Simply backup you configuration of the phone so you can compare it what the phone actually holds within its memory and compare it with the configuration you are trying to load from the server.

As another example you also do only need:

device.set="1"
device.baseProfile.set="1"
device.baseProfile="Lync"

the above when you are using "old" non LYNC / Skype for Business SKU phones and will need to purchase the relevant licenses for these if they still being used.

If you need further support please open a ticket with your reseller if the quoted references and the extensive FAQ's or the forum search do not help you.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you.

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter please post either your phone's MAC address or your Polycom devices serial so I can look up who would be able to support you.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Re: BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Hello cdodge,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

A couple of things:

  • As already explained => here <= UC Software 5.5.0 is NOT a Skype for Business supported software. You must use UC Software 5.5.1 or 5.4.5 instead.
    Did you ever get anywhere with your old post?

  • Option 160 is only supported in non Skype for Business / LYNC SKU's which makes me believe you are using these phones without the correct license as explained => here <= The Skype SKU -019 or the LYNC SKU -018 would be using Option 161

    Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

  • The Cloud PBX can force the phone to use settings from the Cloud and BToE is deactivated as a standard. Source => here <=

So please verify these settings and if it still fails please open a Support Ticket via your reseller once you ensured you have the right SKU and/or License required.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards

Re: BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Thank you for your Reply Steffen.

I did get my old post resolved, I will get it updated with the resolution.

Yes the VVX 500 phone I was using for testing is a non-lync SKU, it was part of a 8x8 deployment for our current phone system that I was using just for testing, this explaines why the Option 160 is working on that phone. The VVX 501 is a -019 phone, which is what we will be purchasing for our deployment. I will look into Option 161, thank you for your heads up! I will mark as resolved after testing is complete.

Re: BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Steffen,

This is what I have done, I placed the new 5.5.1x firmware in the FTP directory and created DHCP Option 161 string pointed to ftp://PlcmSpIp:PlcmSpIp@ucs.***.com. I factory reset the VVX 501 phone using 1,3,5 and rebooted, it pulled the new firmware and updated successfully.

Upon bootup it pairs with my computer over BToE, but then it asks for a "Lock Code" after putting in a lock code the phone reboots again and after the phone is rebooted the BToE settings are set back to disabled and manual. Some settings are still in the phone like my custom admin pin, and time/gtm offsets. But others like my Custome CA certificates and BToE settings are not.

Here are my config file settings, settings in RED seem to be lost upon the phone rebooting once a Lock Code is entered.

Re: BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Also, If I manually turn on the BToE to enabled and the set the pairing to Auto and than do a normal reboot. The BToE enabled setting will stick but the pairing reverts to manual each time.

Do I need to set feature.deviceLock.enable="0" to prevent this?

EDIT

Okay I disabled the deviceLock and factory reset the phone. BToE started up as normal and paired. It prompted me to enter my credentials on my computer to login to SfB online (as I want it to behave). After entering my credentials it logged in to SfB just fine, the phone then unpaired itself. The settings are now set back to Disabled and Manual....are any of these settings controlled via SfB online? and why the heck ddoes it work normally with a VVX 500 but these 019 phones behave differently?

Re: BToE settings will not push to VVX 501 phone by provisioning server

Hello cdodge,

as already mentioned in my original reply:

  • The Cloud PBX can force the phone to use settings from the Cloud and BToE is deactivated as a standard. Source => here <=

This means whatever the Call Server sends via the Inbound Provisioning has a higher priority.

Simply backup you configuration of the phone so you can compare it what the phone actually holds within its memory and compare it with the configuration you are trying to load from the server.

As another example you also do only need:

device.set="1"
device.baseProfile.set="1"
device.baseProfile="Lync"

the above when you are using "old" non LYNC / Skype for Business SKU phones and will need to purchase the relevant licenses for these if they still being used.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier
