Hello,

I'm starting a new thread as I haven't found this topic discussed here previously.

My organization is migrating our VoIP provider to Skype For Business.  We have two types of Polycom phones: VVX310 and SoundStation IP 5000.  I have been able to upgrade to the Lync/SfB specific firmware on the VVX310's and get them working on Skype for Business.

So my first question is: Can this be done on the SoundStation IP 5000's? (and how?)

Additionally, while searching for firmware that might work on the 5000's, I noticed that there is a license requirement - so my second question is: Is this a Polycom license in addition to Skype For Business license?

Hello PeterO,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The SoundStation IP is only LYNC 2010 and LYNC 2013 compatible and there is no planned support for Skype for Business to my knowledge.

The VVX is sold in various versions:

  • a SIP Only SKU which requires an additional License to be used with Lync / Skype for more than 30 days (testing prior only)
  • a LYNC SKU
  • a Skype SKU

Some additional information can be found => here <=

Basically if you have already purchased VVX's not as Skype or LYNC SKU you must purchase the relevant amount of per LYNC licenses via your Polycom reseller.

Any LYNC / Skype SKU already has the license fee added.
