Hi

Hello

We currently have about 800 phones and are looking at updating to the latest firmware by using the distributed polling method. I have followed the polycom docuemt (feature profile 68720) however the phones do not go out at the scheduled time and get the update. All is good with FTP server as that is what we used to originally configure all the phones, also if go to software updates and select custom server and point to my ftp server I am able to do it that way. I have exported the confuguration from my to tverify it has the required provision parameters as below:

prov.polling.enabled="1"
prov.polling.mode="random"
prov.polling.period="86440"
prov.polling.time="01:00"
prov.polling.timeRandomEnd="05:00"

I must be missing something, however I cannot determine what that is, any assiostance would be much apopreciated.

Thanks

Larry

Hello @EllTee,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used UC Software version as issues experienced or a question asked may already be addressed in a newer release.

It would also be of interest what types of phones you have.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes, Administrator Guides or FAQ post’s.

The above is also stated in the "Must Read First" and is the absolute minimum requirement every new post should include. .

In addition providing us with this basic information gives Polycom an idea what Software Versions are used in the field and avoids wasting time trying to troubleshoot issues which have already been addressed.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP or UC Software Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

In addition some or a couple of your old post(s) => here <= are still open / pending as you have not marked these as "Accept as a solution" or at least provided some form of feedback or answer.

If they are in this state nobody finding them via a community search will know if an answer or advice provided was useful and has maybe helped you.

Could you therefore kindly go over them and mark or answer as appropriate ?

If they are marked as "Accept as a solution" other users can find these easier and it helps them to utilise the community more efficiently.

To answer your actual question if you defined a customer server for software updates the phone will only poll for configuration changes and not software updates.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Hi

The UC software version varies at our differnet locations:

5.5.1.11526

5.5.2.8571

5.6.0.17325

We also have a variety of phones 600, 500, 400 and 300 series.

"To answer your actual question if you defined a customer server for software updates the phone will only poll for configuration changes and not software updates."

So that being the case how does one update the software in an automated fashion without the use of 3rd party software? What solution do you reccomend?

If the software is on my custom server should a reboot of the phone not cause the phone to check and update the s/w if it is newer than what is on the phone? This only works for me if a select reset the phone to factory defaults - it then updates?

Any information would be helpfull

Hello @EllTee,

You are using:

upgrade.custom.server.url

The above is to manually navigate to the Utilities > Software Upgrade section and manually check for an update and download and install if a newer version is available.

Simply clear the above and use:

device.prov.serverName

instead for both the configuration and firmware.

Hi Steffen

Thank you for your reply. To confirm are you suggesting that by adding that the phones will go out at the time determined by prov.polling values?

I have the provisioning server name as part of the DHCP scope options 160 and 161. When we take a new phone out of the box and plug it in it automattically downloads the latest version which I have on the FTP server. It just doesn't seem to get the new update when a update the s/w on our FTP site., as it does when brand new out of the box.

Thanks again

Larry

Hello @EllTee,

Attach a backup of your configuration. You may still have the wrong settings as explained above.
