We set our VVX phones to get their software updates from Microsoft, and they have been steady at version 18.104.22.16825 for a long time. How long do they usually take to approve a new firmware version? Will they upgrade to 5.7 just in time for Steffen to tell us about version 5.8? What are the risks of running a more updated version and managing updates ourselves?
This completely depends if you require Polycom support or not.
Polycom will only support you if you are running a current GA, at present UC Software 5.7.2 or -1 aka UC Software 5.6.2
Apart from that you can run whatever you are happy with.
Of course new features are only implemented in the latest versions.
