Hi,

we have a polycom 5500 phone which works really well for Skype meetings - but we also would like to be able to use the same meeting room for sharing/showing some video content. Is it possible to utilise the CX5500 as effectively a USB speaker (so we don't have tinny laptop speakers trying to fill a room)? I realise we could easily add a set of external/bluetooth speakers, but the sound quality out of the 5500 is really good, and if I don't need more clutter in my meeting room I don't want it!

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hello PaulMason,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The Polycom CX5100 and CX5500 are not only a 360 degrees Camera and Microphone / Speaker extension for a LYNC / Skype for Business client but it can also be the speaker / microphone for any other Windows or Mac (1.2.0 added Mac support) application.

Excellent! I had tried simply playing some music, and found it came through my laptop speakers. Seeing your confirmation, I looked closer - on Windows 8.1, right clicking on the 'Sound' icon and choosing 'Playback Devices' allowed me to select 'Echo Cancelling Speakerphone - Polycom CX5500 Audio as the 'Default Device', rather than 'Default Communications Device' as it previously was.

Works perfectly - thanks! 🙂
