Hello Everyone,

At my company, we own a Polycom Trio 8500 conference phone. We managed to install Microsoft teams but it's not what we expect of it and it doesn't meet our requirements, atm we can only choose between a teams profile or a cellphone profile, and this means that we can only use teams on the phone or use it as a phone just being able to call. we need to be able to call and reviece calls while also using teams to make conference calls. this isn't possible at the moment because of the fact that we have to choose between profile is there some way that we could use teams and still being able to use a cellphone, right now we need to choose between profiles and if we want to change the profile we need to reset the phone this isnt useful and we could make backups and reset them but that would be such a stupid thing to do because off the work it would take every time.

So I hope someone has a solution for this,

Kind regards

Jeu Bosman

I'm not an expert - but have you registered the Trio as a SIP device?  That would make it a phone on your corporate phone system with its own number.  I believe this is possible.

Whether you can merge calls into a Teams call is another question entirely.  But being able to use the Trio as a standard conference phone would likely be helpful to you.

We already registered the SIP Device but we want to be able to switch between teams and the phone itself without hard resets or backups.

You want to use the device to make and receive calls at the same time as conducting a Teams call?  I'm afraid I just don't understand how that would work.  Hopefully, someone else can chime in.

Hello @Jeu ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

Below is the minimum information we would need:

Both the communities Must Read First and the FAQ reference the basic minimum information a new or follow up post should contain.

This ensures the questions having to be asked are limited and any new or follow up post contains the right amount of details to ensure any voluntary participant within the community does not spend additional time chasing basic information.

As a reminder the basic information asked for:

  • Provide the exact Software Version of your Phone
  • Provide the Phone Model
  • Provide the Call Platform (aka openSIP,Teams, Skype for Business Online, Skype for Business on Premise, Lync)
  • Provide details if UC / SIP or ObiEdition
  • Additional Poly Infrastructure (RPRM,PDMS or BToE)
  • If applicable provide a backup of the phone in question

UC Software 4.0.0 or later via the Web Interface Utilities > Phone Backup & Restore > Phone Backup > Phone Backup. Please rename into .TXT or Zip the file to attach.
Since UC Software 5.9.0 simply provide this via the Web Interface Diagnostics > Download Support Information Package

  • If possible provide a Log and either attach them or use the Code Tag.Consult the Troubleshooting Section found within the FAQ if applicable
  • If possible provide the MAC Address or Serial of the device
  • Provide details for example if the issue is a day 1 issue or only happened after an upgrade or any other relevant details
  • For questions around Support please check here

Whilst providing some of these details may not directly impact any possible answer the community can provide, it does enable Poly to have an overview of the current software used. In addition, providing all details at the same time allow us to check logs or look up potential support partners if an issue needs to come into support. It also enables us to verify the entitlement for using features.

There is also a specific Microsoft section => here <=

Please ensure you always check the FAQ's and/or utilize the community search before posting any new topics or follow up posts.

July 19. 2019 Question: Can a Poly Trio support Microsoft Teams or Zoom at the same time as Skype for Business or openSIP?

Resolution: If the Poly Trio is running the native Teams app you cannot use any other Line. Teams on the Trio is mutually exclusive and does not allow pairing with a Visual+/VisualPro for Video. The native Zoom room application is the same. Zoom can be used in a Hybrid setup as explained => here <=

Basically, if you run Native Teams, you cannot make use of the Hybrid Setup as explained above.

You could use the free RealConnect Service provided by Poly up to June 2020. Then you can use your Trio as a "normal" SIP Phone and leverage Teams.

Please work with a Poly reseller or check >here<

I can vouch for the RealConnect Service - as I just set that up with our older Group Series.  It's pretty cool.  And it's free through June 2020 as the moderator stated.  A great way to further test it out.

@Jeu, based on your message, I am inclided to believe that you switched your profile mode to MS Teams, correct?

If you have switched your device over to MS Teams, the device stops using Poly software and instead launches the Microsoft Application for Teams Phones.  The ability to pair as a bluetooth speaker (headset) device from your cellphone is not a feature of the Microsoft software.
