I want the Polycom VVX 501/601 series phones to automatically log a user out after X hours

We have users that travel between offices and sign into phones when they're at shared desks. Problem is users do not log out and leave the phones logged in causing issues. How can I setup a configuration parameter to automatically log a phone out of Skype for Business after X amount of minutes or hours. I tried settings this sign out parameter here https://documents.polycom.com/bundle/ucs-ag-6-0-0/page/r-ucs-ag-user-profile-parameters.html but it didn't work.

Welcome to the Poly Community. We usually ask for this:

Both the communities Must Read First and the FAQ reference the basic minimum information a new or follow up post should contain.

This ensures the questions having to be asked are limited and any new or follow up post contains the right amount of details to ensure any voluntary participant within the community does not spend additional time chasing basic information.

As a reminder the basic information asked for:

UC Software 4.0.0 or later via the Web Interface Utilities > Phone Backup & Restore > Phone Backup > Phone Backup. Please rename into .TXT or Zip the file to attach.
Since UC Software 5.9.0 simply provide this via the Web Interface Diagnostics > Download Support Information Package

  • If possible provide a Log and either attach them or use the Code Tag.Consult the Troubleshooting Section found within the FAQ if applicable
  • If possible provide the MAC Address or Serial of the device
  • Provide details for example if the issue is a day 1 issue or only happened after an upgrade or any other relevant details
  • For questions around Support please check here

Whilst providing some of these details may not directly impact any possible answer the community can provide, it does enable Poly to have an overview of the current software used. In addition, providing all details at the same time allow us to check logs or look up potential support partners if an issue needs to come into support. It also enables us to verify the entitlement for using features.

 

Since UC Software 5.7.0 we support Hot Desking:

Resolution: Since 5.7.0 this feature is supported on VVX Business Media phones as shown => here <=

The parameter you found only works for openSIP as shown => here <= and is not applicable for Skype for Business.

Thank you for the feedback, those articles are good but seems not quite the same as what I want. Our goal is to have little as possible interaction with the end user. I can't have users signing in as guests to host phones. These phones are not common area phones either, they have no dial tone when not being used and are not logged into any common account. If I can't force a phone log out every day can we at least confirm if I can have the phone reset itself everyday (maybe a full reformat/reset?) as to kick the person off the phone?

 

We're using:

VVX501 and VVX601

Firmware: 5.9.5

We have Polycom Resource Manager where we deploy configurations from and build profiles

We are Skype for Business Online only shop, no hybrid

If you need more i can provide but its not an issue more so an inquiry so a backup/MAC shouldn't matter.

no, we do not have such functionality in Skype for Business mode.

 

In order to qualify for the Microsoft 3PIP program, our phones are required to fulfil certain scenarios and your request is not one of them.

 

You could look at using the REST API as explained here:

The above has a couple of examples and the /api/v1/mgmt/skype/signOut functionality could be used.

 

I did things like this before in Batch Files or CRON jobs.
