Make call while VVX UCS Phone is locked

Hello,  I see there is a configuration to allow answering a call while phone is locked, but is there a configuration to allow making a phone call when the phone is locked?

Ideally we want to lock the phone to protect voicemail, while still allowing making and recieving calls. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello kdsych,

I believe we already discussed this in detail enough => here <=

The Admin Guide and the linked FAQ post in above reply state:

When your phone is locked:

  • You can only make an outgoing call to a number from a list of authorized numbers.

Re: Make call while VVX UCS Phone is locked

Thanks, I realize that. We discussed the capability of locking the phone but not specifically making a call while the phone is locked. I did see the configuration notes you pointed out, however I would like to know if there is a work around for that. The customer is not happy with having to unlock the phone to make a phone call, but understandably they still want their voicemail secure.

I'm of the opinion that my request isn't that unreasonable.

Re: Make call while VVX UCS Phone is locked

It's not much of a workaround but I found that the 5.5.2.8571 firmware does allow us to make & receave calls while the device is locked on our VVX311. This feature/bug in this firmware that allows you to call out from the locked screen. At least with our basic config and letting Skype to much of the profile work.

If I use the 5.6.0.17325 firmware the Lock screen shows a "text entry" field so the numbers you press to dile are entered in the un-lock code field. In the older 5.5.2 version if you need to select the "unlock" befor entering a unlock code. The other option is to select the "new call" softkeys which is restricted to the "Place an Authorized Call" feature. If you do not select either the numbers you enter will allow you to place a call. I've tested this on a 4 and 10 digit number. Pressing the voicemail button does not work in this state.

I took a peak at our config, with is verry basic and if we have a function switched on to allow this I didn't see it. We mostly take the phone from our supplyer make sure the firmware is updated then associate them with our Skype4B (on-prem) users.

Re: Make call while VVX UCS Phone is locked

Hello BaldingAdmin,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

This is another good reason for why I am always asking the original poster to include their currently used software version.

You are mixing up to features here:

  • The original poster is discussing the Polycom provided Phone Lock functionality

  • You are talking about the Microsoft Skype lock which we introduced in UC Software 5.5.1

Our phone lock enables access to the Phone menu but disables to make or receive calls (pending on the configuration used)

The Microsoft lock disables access to the Phone menu's etc. so the calendar as example is hidden.

It does allow outgoing and inbound calls.
