Hi,

We have running MS lync environment and planning to move an IP telephony solution shortly. Thinking to upgrade the lync to SFB along with Polycom SFB certified phones. I would like to have some critical decision points to be cleared:

- Do I need any additional software or license required to use Polycom phones with SFB (lync) as a PBX?

- What MS licenses arequired in this scenario?

- Any additional hardware required?

- Is there any recurring/hidden license of subscription fees in using Lync and Polycom in the future?

This question is a bit different:

- I am testing a polycom phone now (VVX410) . Currently i am able to login with my lync credentials. Its a bit difficult for the user to enter the email address and passwords on the phone everyday to sign in. How can i enable the Extension as username and a PIN to simplify the login and logout? this option is available in the phone web interface but is grayed out. How can i use it?

- Is it possible to brand the phone interface with company logo and slogan? (VVX 311 or 301)

Thank you for any expert advise to go ahead.

Regards

Hello techbash,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

As long as you purchase a phone with a -18 or -19 part number you have all the relevant licenses from a Polycom perspective. For any existing phones without this part number you must purchase a license as mentioned => here <=

I am unable to answer any of the Microsoft related questions.

In regards to signing into the phone you can use Extension and PIN sign in but I am suprised why you would have to do this every day?

Option 43 FAQ:

Jul 11, 2014 Question: Why can we not sign into LYNC via Pin & Extension?

Resolution: Please verify that the phone has the => correct time <= and the Option 43 and Option 120 is setup in the DHCP scope as explained =>here <= or => here <=

Jul 14, 2015 Question:Utilizing Pin & Extension Sign in without DHCP Server Option 43 support?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Hi Steffen,

Thank you for the very informative response.

I will take care the phone has the 18 or 19 number in the part number to have necessary licenses. Would you please let me know what are the required licenses for the phone? Just for my information.

You are right why i require PIN and extension authentication. I will explain. We are planning of a dynamic seating office, where an employee may use any of the office in the floor. This way, he will use random office phones to enter his credentials wherever he sit any of the day. Entering the lync credentials daily would be a tedious job for the employee especially if the passwords are filled with special characters 🙂

Thank you again for your support.

Hello techbash,

You eithe purchase the right phones or if you have existing phones already purchase the right license. There is only one and you can purchase it in bundles.

Its all explained when clicking on the hyperlink.

In regards to moving the employees around you simply need to setup option 43 and simply use a Extension and a PIN.

Please be aware that LYNC / Skype for business has some limitations what features are enabled when using this sign in method.

You could also use BToE and sign into the phone using your PC credentials on a PC rather than the phone.
