We have a provisioning server (and all the powershell settings to do that), but still somehow pull a setting for Upgrade Server under the provisioning server that forces our phones up to 5.6.0.  I can manually go in and adjust the upgrade server to be our local machine hosting the versions, but would rather just blank it out and use option 160 to pull files from the server.  Is there a reason for this "Upgrade Server" setting, or a setting I am perhaps missing?

Hello @ahornatx,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used UC Software version as issues experienced or a question asked may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes, Administrator Guides or FAQ post’s.

The above is also stated in the "Must Read First" and is the absolute minimum requirement every new post should include. .

In addition providing us with this basic information gives Polycom an idea what Software Versions are used in the field and avoids wasting time trying to troubleshoot issues which have already been addressed.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP or UC Software Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

In addition using an official Skype for Business SKU phone would use Option 161 instead of the non LYNC / Skype SKU 160 so you may be using these phones without the correct license.

From our Skype FAQ:

Jan 26, 2016 Question:Do I require a License to use Polycom VVX Business Media Phones with a Lync Server / Skype for Business server ?

License requirements for Polycom VVX Business Media Phones not using a Lync / Skype for Business SKU please see more details on this in the Skype FAQ.

To answer your original question please check this:

Aug 01, 2017 Question:Why am I unable to activate BToE using a VVX phone and Skype for Business Online?

Resolution: Some parameters are provisioned via Skype for Business online as explained in this post => here <=

Thank you, we are using 5.6.0 from the lync.com server

We were using 5.5.2 on our own server before the unexpected autoupgrade.

Hello @ahornatx,

As explained => here <= some settings still come from the Server itself.

The Set-CsIPPhonePolicy cmdlet can be used to verify if the server points to your provisioning server or not.

Also check the enabledeviceupdate is set to FALSE.

Please also respond on the License question aka ensure you have the relevant licenses.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

So for the config files on the server, we've got the device updates turned off and our local provisioning stuff in there.

The config files for the phones, we have what's in Red, but not the other 2 settings.  Do I need to add those in as well?

<LYNCUpdate device.set="1"
 device.prov.lyncDeviceUpdateEnabled.set="1"  device.prov.lyncDeviceUpdateEnabled="0"/>

As far as licensing, I'm not 100% sure...we buy the phones and link up to Skype for Business which is i believe where we get our licenses due to paying for the server subscription on their end.

Hello @ahornatx,

All the parameters shown by yourself need to be added to the phone does not upgrade via the Skype for Business server and in addition the policy as outlined already needs to be set to FALSE.

In regards of the License the Polycom per device license for phones not the Skype SKU is a license that needs to be paid to Polycom and not a service host.

Simply supply me with a couple of your phones MAC addresses and I can verify this.
