Hi,

iam testing at the moment the UC 5.4.1 and if the update from 5.3.0 to 5.4.1 is working.

The first thing i see was, that the Phone don't jump into the right voice vlan after the update.

Then i try to find out what the problem is.

And i have found the problem, that the UC 5.4.1 must have a Problem with the CDP Compatibility.

The VVX 500 with UC 5.3.0 and the default settings, CDP Compatibility enabled and DHCP VLAN Discovery fixed, looks into the DHCP Option 129 and use then the value VLAN-A=937; to jump into the right voice vlan.

The VVX 500 with UC 5.4.1 and the default settings, CDP Compatibility enabled and DHCP VLAN Discovery fixed, don't look into the DHCP Options and stay in the Data vlan and don't jump to the voice vlan.

If i disable the CDP Compatibility at the vvx 500 uc 5.4.1 the phone jumps to the right voice vlan.

The Cisco switch port is configured with "np cdp enable" (for both phones).

Now the qustion is, is this a bug or a feature?

regards,
Oliver

Hi Steffen,

have we a new problem if i say, we have the Option 160 with the provided Server before the update and have still the Problem, that the uc 5.4.1 don't jump into the right vlan. 😞

Or must i Update from 5.3.0 to 5.3.1 and then to 5.4.1?

regards,

Oliver

Hello Oliver,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Apr 21, 2015 Question: Unable to upgrade the Phone when using a VLAN

Resolution: This is a current bug and please setup a local provisioning server in the native VLAN as shown => here <=. Check the release notes for VOIP-100191

Hi Steffen,

thanks for the fast answer.

We are using a provisioning ftp server and over this the phones have load the update.

At the case http://community.polycom.com/t5/VoIP/VLAN-support-during-upgrade-on-firmware-VVX-phones/td-p/71568 it is possibe to see, that this problem exist long time and has not solfed at the last releases.

Or have you more informationes?

regards,

Oliver

Hello Oliver,

Yes this is an issue in 5.3.0 and was fixed for example in 5.3.1

This was also an issue in 5.2.0 or other versions and the latest release notes in the various versions should have the quoted VOIP-100191 as a fix.

As you are running 5.3.0 you would need to setup a Option 160 in the native VLAN so the phone can load its firmware and once on the fixed build it would simply utilize the VLAN provided Server.
