We have Polycom VVX 300 phones at some of our remote locations and they are supposed to be registering over the WAN to our main DHCP server back at HQ. According to this article, the Cisco 2901 is stripping the Option 125 header. Now the article seems to explain how to fix in a MITEL environment, but does someone know how I would go about doing that for a Polycom VVX 300 or 500 for that matter in a Lync environment. If DHCP is local to the remote site, we don't have the issue. So it's obviously the 2901 breaking it, but I don't think Cisco is going to fix that for me.

Hello Stelz,
welcome back to the Polycom Community.
We had in the past an issue with a Opion125 as malformed packet was send from our DHCP client.
It is always useful to include the currently used UC Software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.
This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.
The above is also stated in the "Read First: Welcome to the Polycom VoIP Forum"
Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:
Question: How can I find out my SIP UC Software Version or the BootROM Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

We updated to 5.4 Rev A and still experiencing the problem. It works fine on a local DHCP server meaning when there is no ip helper address involved. Like I said, I don't think this is a Polycom issue, but was wondering if anybody had any experience with presenting a valid DHCP option or is everybody doing DHCP locally at remote locations vs. over the WAN?

We run a centralized DHCP over our MPLS network. We currently have sites where the "DHCP Helper" is on Cisco 28xx, Cisco 38xx, Juniper SSGs, and PaloAlto PAs.
However we don't use DHCP Option 125, we try to keep the DHCP configuration as close to the Microsoft standard for Lync IP phones as possible.
What are you configuring via Option 125? Are you using a Microsoft DHCP server?
