I had assumed that should you connect your laptop (VGA & 3.5 audio) to the CX7000 that once you select PC Content Preview you'd get pretty much what you'd get on an HDX.
Whilst I try & find a CX7K & Lync environment to play with is there any knowledge out there that says Audio isn't supported in this way?

The content sharing capabilities of the CX7000 are based on Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) which in Lync natively only supports screen information, it does not handle audio.
This is quite different than the HDX's ability to handle H.239 content which includes higher frame-rate video and embedded audio.
