Does anyone have any intel on the ability to extend the desk mic array.  The Polycom Walta-RJ45 cables at both ends with CAT5e in the middle trick doesn't work.

Pete,  correct standard LAN cable will not work.

See the wiring diagram on page 2-53 of the IRM to make the cat5 cable.

This note is on the same page.....

The Polycom RJ-45 connector pinout is custom. For best performance, follow the

wiring tables shown in this document. If standard Ethernet cables are used, signal

integrity cannot be guaranteed and degraded performance may occur, especially at

longer lengths.

And yes, the walta-RJ45 will work for the HDX8,7,6 series

Pete,  the 25ft distance between mics is a max and cannot be made longer.  Below is from the Integrators Reference Guide page 2-51

The total length from the Polycom HDX system to the first Polycom

microphone can vary between 18 in and 100 ft. The maximum length between

subsequent microphones is 25 ft.

Thanks Ken.  I've re-evaluated 2-50 Integrators Manual & that's pretty clear for HDX9000.

IF we wanted to apply that cabling to HDX4/6/7/8k & use 2457-2546-001 Walta-RJ45 would we still

get 100 foot to the 1st Desktop Mic Array?

Simply converting Walta to CAT5e (orange Polycom LAN cable) & back patently doesn't work.

Hi,

Will this solution apply to a Group Series 300 desktop microphone array?

HP Recommended

Yes,  all the same rules apply. The wiring diagrams are in the HDX Integrators Guide.  They just have not gotten around to updating the RealPresence Integrators Guide. Be sure to observe the limits of the number of mics for each product model.

Hi Ron,

Thank you for the reply. I have one more question relating to this.
Could you please confirm the longest possible length of Walta cable that you can get?

I need to run a Polycom Desktop Microphone array about 35 metres away from a codec, with 2 more mics daisy chained from there.

IIRC the logest Walta-Walta cable we have on our price list is 50 foot. (Watch out, recent queries to this Helpdesk got a little paranoid aboput the description on the packaging "mini-VGA").
