We are purchasing 200 RealPresence for Desktop licenses for our users. Once the licenses have been deployed, what happens when a user replaces the workstation? How do we move the license from the old workstation to the new one? Thanks in advance.

Hello angus,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

To my knowledge the license is as is and not transferable.

For more details you may want to work with a Polycom Sales engineer via your Polycom reseller.

Does that mean that if a workstation is broken and needs to be replaced, a new RealPresence license needs to be purchased?

I am currently looking into this in more detail with the relevant team to provide you are more precise answer dealing with issues like this.

Hello Angus,

I discussed this with product management and have the following official explanation:

Polycom RealPresence Desktop for Windows and Mac OS X license my be re-used based on the EULA, End Users License Agreement.

The customer may use the license for a maximum number of users for which it was purchased.

E.G. A customer has purchased a 5-user license pack and they are able to issue or re-issue the license to no more than 5 concurrent users.

For exact agreement refer to the EULA found => here <=

Hi Steffen,

It is good to know that the EULA allows for that. So the next question is how do I do it? For example, how do I release the license from one machine so that another machine can re-use that license. I assume uninstalling the software won't do because the Polycom licensing center does not know that I have uninstalled the software. What is the procedure to properly un-license a machine? Thanks.

Hi Angus

Any luck here? Trying to figure out the same thing.

Hi,

Is anybody aware if there has been any updated info on removing licence from one PC to another?

I see from Stefan's response who works for Polycom that it looks as though this is not possible.

Thanks,

Ray

I'd like to figure this out as well so I can purchase the fewest individual RPD licenses necessary.

I'm wondering if it would be more clear to refer to licensed "users" as licensed "devices."

In other words, as a licensed user on the old CMA desktop software, I can log in to many computers (one at a time) with my credentials and it works fine. With RPD it seems I can only use the device I originally set up when I bought my license.

Hello @RAlexa,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The EULA should be very clear. For standalone usage of RPD you must purchase a license for every PC that you are using it.

RPRM, the followup product to CMA, can deal with changing users signing into PC's.
