How might it be possible to have 2 VSX7000 units communicate without relying on a second party network?

Bill,
Just checked - direct connection with a crossover LAN cable works fine. FYI 'crossover' means that pins 1&2 at one end of cable are connected to pins 3&6 at the other end and vice versa. You have to manually set IP addresses one near to other and a correct mask, for example 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.11, mask 255.255.255.0.
Hope this will useful for you.

Mike

I have a situation where I really don't want to concern myself with a time consuming and potentially costly network setup. Do they have a way of functionally working essentially side-by-side within the same room (2-way video/audio) for demonstration purposes such that there is no reliance on networking configurations at the site to be used at? Thinking a hard wired connection between their rear LAN ports?
Novice sounding I know.
Thanks for considering!

Of course you can use any low cost Ethernet switch/hub and even connect two devices by a crossover cable. But keep in mind that using two endpoints in a room you have a big chance to get feedback audio problem.

Mike,
I appreciate your response.
With the units directly connected together with a LAN cable between their rear LAN ports, there are indications on user interface of no IP connections, please check cable. Not surprised. Mind you, that NO network of any type is trying to be used. That is the preferred way I desire them to be in this upcoming demonstration. How should a configuration/setup be done in order for them to communicate while being connected this way. I have gone on to further discover that one of the units is a VSX7000 and the other a VSX7000A.
Thanks,
Bill
