As per the data sheet:

http://www.polycom.co.uk/content/dam/polycom/common/documents/data-sheets/ceiling-microphone-array-d...

"Each Ceiling Microphone Array covers a 24’ diameter" (24ft = 7.3 metre diameter)

Surely, whilst this is a max coverage area, is it the recommended coverage area? I've seen real world installs of course with closer mic placement.

Is there an ideal as opposed to this maximum?

With regards,

The best source for information on the Ceiling Microphone Arrays is with the SoundStructure documentation, SoundStructure

The Best practices help with this question.

I have also attached a whitepaper on them.

All are oldies, but goodies.

Thank you, but I do not see anything that gives me an indication of recommendations for distance-apart placement.

Personally, the 7.3 metres is I guess under ideal conditions i.e. a whisper quiet room I guess and best possible acoustics. With this in mind I am going to take two thirds of the value and have a diameter from centre of mic and overlap with other mics to ensure coverage.

For CLink devices the minimum distance between them is 10' and the maximum is 25'.

Thanks. Yes, I see that, but I think you're missing my point. I'm speaking more about "recommended" distance between multiple ceiling microphones in terms of their placement for optimal audio capture. I guess then this moves to the realms of the science of acoustic engineering and the responsibility left to the installer to determine the requirement for the number of microphones and placement dependent on room dynamics i.e. reverb, echo, delay and/or to alter those characteristics by recommending/implementing dampening and/or other methods perhaps in conjunction with DSP?

Correct in your assesment.  Depends on the acoustics of the room.
