Hi,

So I'm trying out software endpoints and am currently giving RPD a go. It seems to work well and is able to make point-to-point H.323 calls, which is all I'm after for this setup. But I can't wrap my head around why the call rate is capped at 1920 kbps and the resolution is limited to 720p.

Is the application deliberately handicapped to push customers towards more expensive stand-alone endpoints? Or do I need a premium licence to enable higher call rates (currently on the 30-day trial, so I haven't seen any of the licence options)?

Or did I just overlook something obvious?

Hello ,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.

Assuming you are using RPD 3.3 the release notes => here <= state as follows:

HD Transmit •

  • dual cores, 2.5 GHz or higher (Up to 720p 15fps send, up to 720P 30fps receive)
  • quad cores, 1.6 GHz or higher (Up to 720p 15fps send, up to 720P 30fps receive)
  • quad cores, 2.0 GHz or higher (Up to 720p 30fps send, up to 720P 30fps receive)

I guess this answers your question.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'm testing the latest version (3.3, I think.)

It does answer the question partly, but I'm still wondering why the call rate is capped. If it's for commercial reasons (i.e. an artifical constraint to prevent the desktop app from competing with more profitable hardware solutions) then there's little hope that that will change in a future version, after all.

Hello rt11,

the above are the limitations of the software and there is no deliberate restraint.

RTT,

I'm assuming you are wanting 1080p support added at an appropraite call rate?
