We use Polycom RealPresense for desktop video conferencing. If the microphone gain is set to a high level (usually needed) and it hears background noise the microphone gain is reduced (looking in control panel>sound>recording>microphone>levels). The gain then does not recover when the background noise has reduced. Eventually the gain drops to 29% where it stays.

This only happens with USB microphones and several manufacturers have been tried. The drivers have been updated to the latest. It behaves the same with older versions of the application as well as the latest. It happens with Windows 7, both X86 and X64 versions. We have not tried other versions of Windows, as these would be irrelevant.

It also happens with other communication software, but not if only Windows is running.

Has anyone else met with and resolved this problem?

If this is the wrong forum to post this question I would be grateful if a moderator could move it and then let me know.

If they are having problems with the Windows AGC, then they should disable the auto-level set
