Video Conferencing between Polycom HDX 4000 and a PC on the internet

Hi,

We have a Polycom HDX 4000 in our organisation which we want to use on the net for Audio/Video communication between it and a PC at a remote location. Is it possible?  If so what are the steps required to configure it?

Thank you

Re: Video Conferencing between Polycom HDX 4000 and a PC on the internet

Yes, it is used that way all the time.

First the applicaiton on the PC will need to be standards based videoconferencing, i.e. support the video algorithms used on the HDX 4000, such as H.323 or SIP, H.26x video, ...  An application like the Polycom RealPresence Mobile (for mobile devices) or Desktop for PC applications would be a good application for this.

Secondly you will need to have a firewall or border proxy which will support H.323/SIP video calling, or the HDX 4000 will need to be in the DMZ.  Polycom provides the VBP, Video Border Proxy, for this application if you can not transverse your firewall.

Thirdly, you will need to have enough bandwidth at both locations to support videoconferening.
