Having Win2008 NPS as my RADIUS, I tried to authenticate the phone using the factory installed Polycom device certicate and I get an error from my Authenticator rastls log file that the certificate has an invalid usage. This is even after I have installed the custom CA on the phone and added the Polycom CA on the trusted root certification authorities of the authenticator.

However, if I installed a custom device certificate on the phone (ex. exported domain user certificate) and use that to authenticate, it works fine.

Has anyone able  to authenticate (EAP-TLS) using the factory installed device certificate in an 802.1x secure environment?

Hello TonyJ,

usually your server would need the Polycom Root Certificate to authenticate against with its own device certificate.

The Polycom Root CA can be downloaded from http://pki.polycom.com.

Above is described in the UCS 4.0.1 admin guide for example.

Best regards
