I went through a BLF/Buddy watch issue with our partner.  Here is what I learned:

 

Picture 8 VVX-410 all in the same Asterisk ring group and all with BLF buttons for the other 7 extensions.  Each time a call came in the VVX-410 would receive the incoming call along with a barrage of notify messages to update the BLF buttons.  This was overloading the phones at random causing some phones to not ring.

 

Switching to Buddy Watch greatly reduced the network traffic to the phone and allowed the office to monitor the other extensions and maintain the large ring group.
