Hi,

Just purchased 5 brand new IP 331 phones.

One of them, when it is turned on, will display application not present

So I saw this post:

http://community.polycom.com/t5/VoIP/FAQ-I-get-the-error-Message-application-not-present-on-my-phone...

And got the application here:

http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sip_sw_releases_matrix.html

For the IP 331 I got the 4.0.7 Split

But I don't want to set a provisionning server.

i just want to load the application on the phone.

How can I do that ?

And why doesn't it have an application out of the box ?

Hello BlazeStar,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

You will require a Provisioning server to recover this phone.

Not knowing any history and if these have been purchased from an official Polycom reseller someone may have played with that phone before or simply formatted the file system.

The phones were purchased at NCIX.CA which is, in my idea, a reputable provider.

Anyhow, I wanted to avoid making a provisionning server.

I'm using FreePBX 12 and they have a commercial module that would do that for me but I don't understand why I would have to pay to configure a phone which should be working out of the box.

Do you have any documentation on how to easily create the simplest provisionning server?

Or can I create a CentOS VM and install some packaged software that would install a provisionning server with default configuration?

I only need it so it can update the firmware.

Again, I only have 5 phones... the 4 that are working have been configured in 2 minutes using the Web GUI...

I don't want to spend half a day setting up a provisionning server just for one defective phone...

Hi,

I had a few Polycom VVX500 with the same issue which I managed to resolve.

I must say the support / forums instructions could be easier to follow...

What i did was:

  1. Boot the phone and interrupted the boot up and manually configured it.
  2. In the manual config I added the Provisioning server address / IP for our Thirdlane Server
  3. In Thirdlane I added that phones MAC Address so that it was a valid phone on the system (under Auto-Provisioning) Thirdlane 6 we are using
  4. Then I plugged the phone in and it booted up, connected to server and downloaded the correct config files and BOOM works.

Tooke me ages to work out BUT finally it works.

Hello hel10z,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

The community's VoIP FAQ explains exactly that and booting from a server will load the 00000000000.cfg and recover the phone.

Your instructions are for a specific SIP server and are not applicable to any situation.

I will add an additional sentence to the FAQ to make this even clearer.

Hi,

Actually I agree with the other guys. Those documents are not clear enough. And you may have present that thie error doesn´t let you access via Web in order to load a new firmware, just because there is no a firmware present.

The other document indicates that you have to provide a SIP server, but what if you just want to load a new firmware in order just to get the equipmente "alive" again? I guess It could be done just getting the file from the FTP server or even being clearer with the modifications you have to make in the configuration files to be loaded.

I´ll really appreciate your help.

Thank you very much and best regards,
