We have an Asterisk server (FreePBX) with both IP430 and IP650 phones.  The SIP version is 3.2.3 and the BootROM version is 4.2.2.  I am working on getting DND buttons working on the 650's, some of which have expansion panels.

Using the following code I have been able to get a softkey to toggle it on both types of phones, and the hard button on the 650's also works:

<keys key.scrolling.timeout="1" key.IP_650.9.function.prim="SoftKey3" />

<softkey feature.20.name="enhanced-feature-keys" softkey.feature.mystatus="0" softkey.feature.buddies="0" softkey.3.label="DND" softkey.3.action="$FDoNotDisturb$^*76$Tinvite$" softkey.3.enable="1" softkey.3.precede="0" softkey.3.use.idle="1" />

Setting softkey.feature.mystatus="0" was necessary to get the softkey to map to the DND correctly (before I did that it went to MyStatus).  Disabling the buddies was a first attempt to solve the following problem.

The hard and softkeys work, but while the indicator lights on the phones do light up when someone is on the phone and the buddy icons show when someone is on the phone, nothing is noted on other phones when DND is active.

Is there something I can do so that the phones will recognize when someone else has turned on their DND?

Hello sparticus1701,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

I am quite sure the Buddy Status will only report what you have mentioned above. The Buddy Status functionality will show additional details.

I would in addition suggest to utilize a currently supported software. UCS 4.0.4 is the latest SIP Software Version.

Details on upgrading and many more details can be found in the community FAQ.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Can you answer these buddy status questions:

  1. How do the phones communicate their status to each other?
  2. On our server, the buddy status picks up when someone is on the phone or the phone is disconnected/off, but it does not pick up the Presence setting on the other phones.  Can this be remedied?
  3. Following the last question, if the presence can be detected, can the action I created be augmented to set the local presence to 'Do Not Disturb' as well as send *76 to the server?

Also, following up on the SIP version.  I have 430's and 650's together and as far as I understand the 430's will not accept beyond v3.2.7.  Is it possible to have the 430's get one SIP version and the 650's get another?  Is that preferred to having both types on the same SIP version?  Are there configuration issues with upgrading the SIP from 3.2.3 to 3.2.7 or 4.0.4?  What are the benefits versus any breaking changes in the configuration?

Can you also clarify the distinctions and relations between the SIP and the BootROM?

Hello sparticus1701,

The community's VoIP FAQ contains already answers to most of your questions.

Functionalities like the one you queried about are usually only part of larger enterprise developments we for example have with our Partner Broadsoft or similar.

There are server controlled features and part of that is documented in the FAQ as well.

Usually changes to our standard software require a feature request that needs to be raised via your Polycom reseller and worked via a Polycom Sales Engineer and requires a business case to justify the change.
