My phones are already configured using Lync base profile, and do I still need Lync.cfg file?  Are serverAutoDiscovery and autoProvisionCertLocation included in the Lync base profile?

Hello Shawn,

since UCS 4.1.0 a Option 43 Device Certificate and Option 120 SIP server similar to our CX Phones should be sufficient.

In addition you could set the Phones to boot straight into Pin Auth Mode so it is exactly as the CX Phones.

Once I find some time I will update the LYNC FAQ Post.

Best Regards

Hi Steffen,

Thanks for responding my post.  Does UCS 4.1.2 still require VVX500 to downloand Lync server certificate?  I couldn't find information on how to import cert to the phone.

Hello Shawn,

A cert is always required.

I suggest you google for our Polycom Guru Jeff Schertz's blog's as he describes it all in detail.

Our CX Phone range utilizes DHCP option 43 with 5 sub options to provide the link to the certificate for the phones.

Please be aware of the following when utilizing UCS 4.1.0 or later:

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync environment. You may not install, access, or use the Software in a Lync environment on more devices than are listed on your license until additional licenses have been purchased and authorized by Polycom. These licenses should be purchased from the same company from which you purchased the devices. You may operate devices against a Lync server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

Best Regards
