The following is using a vvx 300 series phone using UC version 5.4.5 although we have 400 and 600 series phones available if that matters.
I have a customer who's receptionist nearly always transfers calls to one of a large list of other employees who are included in the contact list. . Currently this requires hitting (transfer) - (Home) (Directories) - (Contact Directory) . They would like to be able to reduce the number of button presses needed to get to the Contact Directory.
Alternativly I've looked into using an expansion module and this would be perfect if ALL of the directory entries appeared on the EM. Unfortunately the first few entries appear on the actual phone and promptly dissapear as soon as the user presses <transfer>. Net result is that if they want to transfer to most of the users they are available from the em but for the first few entries they have to hit <lines> first . If I could get those first few directory entries on the em rather than the phone that would work well but I'm not sure how to do that.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello @nmos,
welcome to the Polycom Community.
UC Software 5.4.5 is no longer a supported version.
I suggest to try this with the current 5.7.0 as it has new features as shown => here <=
The new default off hook feature may do what you are after.
In addition the community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:
Jan 12, 2012 Question: Can I change / re-assign the appearance of Line, BLF, Speed Dial and Presence Keys?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Thanks. Upgrading the firmware and using up.OffHookLineView.enabled="1" in the config worked out perfectly. I may also add a Directory entry on one of the line keys as mentioned in the faq for those users who don't have an em.
