I work for a company that deploys a fair amount of Polycom Soundpoint Phones. I have a customer who is hearing impaired and uses a hearing aid. As far as I understand the OEM handsets are HAC (hearing aid compatible) and support magnetic coupling; however, I can find absolutely no documentation on how to set up/enable this feature on the Soundpoint phones. I tried searching both this forum and the PDF documents that were available for Polycom 450 and 550 phones to no avail.

Does this setting require set up? How does one go about doing it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello DresG,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

I am not aware that this needs to be activated in any form apart from the SpectraLink 8400 series.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Fair enough, I had come to the same conclusion.

Are there steps one can take to troubleshoot this feature? Do I just need to buy a 3rd party handset that actually supports this feature? I certianly don't see any other options available on the Polycom website for aftermariet handsets.

Are there specific standards that are supported to help determine compatability with hearing aids?

Hello,

I am only aware that we are Supporting the HAC standard if stated on the handset datasheet in question.

In order to get more details or work this with our Support team please raise a case via your Polycom reseller.

I personally have not got any more details than below:

All handsets supplied with the Polycom SPIP / VVX range supports magnetic coupling - for those hearing devices that support this method of connectivity (HAC).

All our wireline handsets are compliant with HAC requirements, which is a legal FCC certification requirement in the USA.

I have been told by an independant consultant, that the magnets included with the SoundPoint IP phones can assist in reducing echoe , when clipped to the network cable, close to the phone... any truth to that?
