Hi everyone,

Do I think it's possible to encrypt syslog messages (on VVX phones) when sending them to the syslog server?

Syslog contains the SIP messages and I don't want to sned them in clear text. We are encrypting the SIP connection (TLS) and there is no point to have a secure SIP communication and then send syslog in clear text.

Thanks

Ok it's possible and I found the setting:

device.syslog.transport="3".

Hello ,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

You actually need:

<test device.set="1"
 device.syslog.transport.set="1"
 device.syslog.transport="TLS" />

Or you can set this via the Web Interface as documented now here:

Just to clarify, as per the documentation: http://support.polycom.com/global/documents/support/technical/products/voice/Syslog_TB17124.pdf

The value needs to be 0, 1, 2 or 3. These correspond to "none", "UDP", "TCP", and "TLS" respectively, but the value in the config file must be numeric, not the text representation.

I tried this previously and it caused the phone to log an error abuot it being an invalid value or similar.

Hello Squigley,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

The above is from a UC Software 5.5.1 backup so I assume it is correct.

If you ever doubt the default value please check here:
