Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to get a factory defaulted phone to reach our remote provisioning server without having to manually log into the polycom phone

We are using soundpoint IP 550s

so far:

DHCP server assigns phone an address and points phone initially to an ftp server.

The phone reads the 000000000000.cfg file, but does not seem to be making the changes to the phone provisioning options.

I think I may be botching the syntax in the .cfg file

Trying to make the server type = HTTPsomething.net

Server address=  something.net

Tag SN to UA  (enabled)

*using defualt server user and server password

here is what my latest CFG looks like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
  <deviceSettings>
  <device device.set="1"
  device.dhcp.bootSrvUseOpt.set="1"       device.dhcp.bootSrvUseOpt="2"
  device.net.cdpEnabled.set="1"        device.net.cdpEnabled="0"
  device.prov.serverType.set="1"        device.prov.serverType="2"
  device.prov.serverName.set="1"        device.prov.serverName="something.net"/>
</deviceSettings>

This is all that is in the  00000000000.cfg file

Is there a way of validating the syntax?

Is there a 00000000000.cfg file posted as an example

Thanks 🙂

Hello ChaeID,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Changes to any configuration settings are never made to the actual 000000000000.cfg or MAC.cfg

Changes are only loaded via a 000000000000.cfg or MAC.cfg

The community's VoIP => FAQ <= contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: What is the relevance of the 000000000000.cfg or <mac>.cfg?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

you may also want to check

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download / Upgrade / Update / Downgrade Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

The FAQ, the matching Admin Guide of your yet unknown Software or the community search can also be consulted for more details.

HI Steffen,

my objective is to have dhcp server option 66 direct polycom phones to a ftp server.

i would like the ftp server to contain files that can change the provisioning server type and server address

Do you ahve any suggestions on how this is usually done?

I read through all the docs before posting.

Thanks

Hello ChaeID,

I believe I have already answered this in my last reply.

The 0000000000000.cfg or MAC.cfg contain a CONFIG_FILES="" section which is used to load additional files that are separated via a "," (comma) .

These manually created files or templates contain the values that differ from the standard.

Using the DHCP options as explained in the FAQ post will provide the phone with the server address to download the above and using the config_files section load any values that differ from the standard.

Please consult the Admin Guide and/or FAQ or community search and if this fails please contact your Polycom reseller for Tier 1 support,

*I believe you authored that poist as well

Phone boots up uses ftp by default--> grabs this file-->000000000000.cfg--fiel contains-->

CONFIG_FILES="FTP://phone:phone@192.168.1.52/device.cfg"

device.cfg contains: device config changes

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Generated device.cfg Configuration File -->
<polycomConfig xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="polycomConfig.xsd">
  <device device.set="1" device.dhcp.bootSrvOptType="2"
  device.prov.serverName.set="1" device.prov.serverName="something.net"
  device.prov.serverType.set="1" device.prov.serverType="2"
  device.prov.tagSerialNo.set="1"    device.prov.tagSerialNo="1"
  </device>
</polycomConfig>

Thanks for you help

Hello ChaeID,

that post deals with a completely different situation as it has another vendors phone that uses the same DHCP option.

If you only have Polycom phones then you simply specify the provisioning server in the DHCP Option 66 or 160 as explained in the FAQ and that is it.

No configuration file is needed.
