I have a SoundPoint IP 335 with SIP Version 3.3.3.0069 and BootROM Version 4.3.1.0440 and using VOIP.ms for a provider.

I'm trying to update the phone to 4.0.3F, but can't find a way to do that manually.

{My ultimate goal is to program the Line 2 key for voicemail, and enable Call Transfer, but thought I'd update the phone to the current version before starting; in case the procedure has significantly change from SIP v3x to SIP v4x.}

I've searched the community forum and read through the Admin Guide.  The Admin Guide states to login the phone's web config with the Admin account.  However, my phone only has the 'Polycom' account with '456' as the password.  I don't see an option to upload a file, or point to a directory that contains the updated files.

I can go into the phone's menu {Settings > Advanced > Admin Settings > Upload Configurations: All Sources selected), but don't find/see an option to upgrade there, either.

I naively thought I could just upload a new firmware file (similar to a updating a router), but I was wrong.

This is my only desk phone, so I don't have a boot server, either.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello AainR,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Only Phones with UCS 4.0.0 or newer can upgrade their software online via their Web Interface.

I got my phone updated to UC 4.0.3.7562 and BootROM 5.0.3.1667

The FileZilla Server doc was the most helpful for me, (and a basic understanding of FTP servers.)  I had missed that link when I first went through the VoIP FAQ, as I thought that wouldn't apply to me, as I didn't have multiple phones to update/configure.

Thanks, Steffen.

I do feel, however, that Polycom could easily do far more to support SOHO customers by just putting up a couple of FTP server locations that customers could just point their phones to.  That would enable their phones to be automatically updated.  I spent about 3 hours on something that should have taken 30 minutes.

On a minor note, there is no documentation with the new phone on how to enter numbers and characters using the keypad.  I just stumbled upon this.  Unfortunately, what I learned from this will not be needed again, as now I can upgrade the firmware via the web config.

I will try and post more detailed steps for others to follow.

Hello AainR,

the usual support process is through your Polycom reseller.

If a ticket is raised with Polycom support we can then provide a link to our update server.

Best Regards

I'd like to update my Polycom 335 to v4+ but the phone was originally purchased a few years ago. Can you please provide the link to the update server so my phone can upgrade. It's currently v3 for the software. Thanks!

Hello shawnrosspeters,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

There is no public server for end customers they can use for such older phone software version.

The community's VoIP FAQ, as already replied in this post, contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download / Upgrade / Update / Downgrade Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Please ensure you always check the community FAQ and/or utilize the community search before posting any new topics or follow up post’s.

If you are still unable to follow this you can always raise a Pay Per Incident Ticket.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you. In case this is some sort of an Internet discounter please post your phone's MAC address so I can look up who would be able to support you.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

I have a SoundPoint IP 335 with software v 4.0.4.2906. We are trying to convert phones over to become zoom phones, but the software needs updated to at least 4.0.14.1580 before it can be used, and every attempt I've made to update this phone (regardless of the version I try to apply) gets it to reboot and start the process, but then it says it cannot download and resumes the reboot abandoning the update all together. This phone is still in great shape, I'd hate to ditch it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @hardwooditguy814 ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

We would need to see some logs. Instructions how to locally provision the phone have been provided to the previous users. This includes how to get logs.

In addition:

Oct 11, 2011 Question: How can I troubleshoot configuration Issues via Log Files or the phone GUI?
