Dear all, my client have a IP 7000 hooked up to Cisco Call Manager 9.1.2. It works okay for call.

But when "Hold" key was pressed on IP 7000 (holder) during a conversation, the opposite party (holdee) using Cisco IP phone also connected to the same Call Manager reported he/she did not hear music-on-hold (MoH) But when pressing "hold" on Cisco IP phone (holder), we can hear MoH on IP 7000 (holdee) .

I referenced Deploying Polycom SoundStation IP with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) Mar 2014 3725-40200-00 On page 10, there is a section on "Supported Phone Features->CUCM Features on SoundStation phones->Music on Hold

It says "Support" Polycom phones can receive MoH when placed on hold by another Poycom phone, but CUCM does not support streaming MoH to Cisco phones when the Polycom phone is put on hold

  • Q1. Does it means it's normal for the following scenarios: scenario A holder-Polycom IP7000; holdee- Cisco IP phone MoH is not heard in Cisco IP phone (holdee) scenario B: holder-Polycom IP7000, holdee- mobile phone in PSTN MoH is not heard in mobile phone (holdee) scenario C: holder-Cisco IP phone; holdee- Polycom IP 7000 MoH is heard in Polycom IP7000
  • Q2. Any config changes on CUCM or IP Polycom 7000 will enable MoH heard when IP 7000 is the holder ?

Thank in advance for your help.

Hello leerkc,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The CUCM guide here states as you already mentioned:

  • Polycom phones can receive MoH when placed on hold by another Polycom phone, but CUCM does not support streaming MoH to Cisco phones when the Polycom phone is put on hold.

  • The above means we can receive Music on Hold if we are placed on hold.

When we park a call we utilize an RFC standard either as SENDONLY or the RFC2543 using the obsolete c=0.0.0.0 technique which does not seem to be supported by Cisco resulting in the Cisco Phone not being able to hear MoH.

There is no parameter that would change this and this is working as designed.

Any change to this would need to come from Cisco.

Hello Steffen thank for your response.

In fact , the statement below :

  • "Polycom phones can receive MoH when placed on hold by another Polycom phone, but CUCM does not support streaming MoH to Cisco phones when the Polycom phone is put on hold"

is from

  • "Deploying Polycom SoundStation IP and Polycom SoundStation Duo Conference Phones with Cisco Unified Communication Manager, Mar 2014 3725-40200-001 Rev A, page 9 Support Phone Feature -> CUCM Features on SoundStation Phones ->Music on Hold (MoH) on page 10.

Regardless the above statement is from Polycom or Cisco doc, am I correct to say ange your comment

  • "there is no parameter that would change this and this is working as designed.Any change to this would need to come form Cisco".

will remain unchanged.

Thx. Richard KC Lee (leerkc)

Hello Richard KC Lee (leerkc),

I re-formatted your post so I could read it.

The final answer as already given this is working as designed / tested and any change would need to come from Cisco.
