Hello all

I am looking for an example of how to globally change the admin password for all of my Soundpoint IP670 phones.  I have a decentralized (retail) environment - about 60 sites - each with about 10 phones.  A security audit discovered that the default admin password is still in place, and needs to be changed.

This is a very simple environment - we do not have advanced features or integration with other apps (like Lync).  We use a Cisco router as our config file storage/provisioning server.  Each site is decentralized, so manually doing this for each phone would be challenging and time consuming.  I know this can be done on the phone itself, but am looking for a way to do this globally.

I have reviewed the Admin guide and there is a section that discusses the configuration files (Application, per-phone and flash parameter). The admin guide makes a lot of assumptions - that the admin is very comfortable editing config files.  This is such a simple environment (basic dial tone), very little customization has ever been done.  I am not well versed on these phones and am looking for some assistance.  Mainly, I am struggling with how to just add the the variable 'device.auth.localAdminPassword' without having to create another unique config file - and updating each phone config file to include this config file in the config file path (set in my per-phone config file).    Can I add this variable in my Master config file?  I use a specified master config file - for site standards - along with a per-phone config file for specific phone values.

Does anyone have a quick tip on how to implement this?  Or has done this and can share your experience.

thanks in advance

Jeff

Hello ,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP UC Software Version or the BootROM Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

In addition the FAQ contains this post here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: What is the Standard Username and Password for a Polycom Phone?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above post shows the required parameters which can either be imported as a configuration file via the Web Interface (UCS 4.0.0 or newer) or via a provisioning server.

The Server options are explained here:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I setup my Phone / Provisioning / Download / Upgrade / Update / Downgrade Software?

Hello Steffan

Thanks for the fast reply.  My BootRom version is 3.2.2.

Can I implement this template into my Master config file?  I will test this and see if this produces the results I am looking for.

Once again - thank you!

Jeff
