I've searched the docs, forum and Google for a way to do a one time provision but have only found information on doing it manually through the phones web interface and linking it to a provisioning server.

I don't have admin access, only user, and I was hoping to set background image, ringtone, push credentials and poll credentials over http. I'm able to do it manually, but I'd it possible to do it through an app?

The REST API is not for end users and can only be used with the Admin account

Just so I understand though, at the user level, I'm able to make changes to my background screen, ringtone, applications settings, etc. through the web interface on the phone. 

 

And there is a rest API available to change these settings as well but that's only available with admin access?

 

If that's the case I'm a little confused, I could pick through the javascript in the web gui and figure out what's getting post'ed to and use the User account to essentially accomplish the same thing. That would take time though and it would be more subject to breaking. Or I guess what I'm asking is, why prevent API access for users?

 

And maybe to shed a little light on why I care, I've built a Chrome extension to interface with my Polycom phone and it's working great! Some features are:

  • I can see the status of my phone in the icon bar
  • I can call people from a simple dial and Speed-dial interface
  • I can right click on phone numbers anywhere in my browser and call them directly
  • Incoming calls cause a pop-up on my screen that I either immediately end or answer right from the pop-up.

However, to set this up I had to manually set the user and pass for the push and poll accounts. I'd love to automate that and let other people in my office use my extension.

Why not create a set up page and have users log in to use the extension?

 

Store the username/pass in Chromes localStorage

 

Is this something I can download from the Chrome store? It seems very useful for others
