POE Splitter Polycom Soundstation IP 6000

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Polycom Soundstation IP 6000. Two questions:

- I have connected the Soundstation with a router that is not POE-enabled. I have used, therefore, a POE-Injector to power up the station which works. So far, so good - problem is that the station is not recognised by my router (no entry). My suspicion is that I need an additional POE Splitter for the Soundstation to be recognised but the cabel of the POE splitter that I have does not fit to the power hook-up of the soundstation...  So, do I need an additional POE Splitter? If so, how can I solve the power cable problem (between POE splitter and Soundstation)?

- On a more general note, what is the IP address of the Soundstation under which I can access the soundstation's software from my PC?

Thanks so much in advance!

Re: POE Splitter Polycom Soundstation IP 6000

Hello sujets2 ,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

I am unsure if I can follow your description.

Usually the RJ45 Plug end of the adapter would plug into your router.

The socket end (the one with the icon of a conference phone) of the adapter will use the provided cable to connect to the IP phone.

The Community FAQ has this post for your second question:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: How can I find out the IP Address of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Re: POE Splitter Polycom Soundstation IP 6000

Hi Steffen,

Thanks for the reply - please let me be more specific in my description:

I do not have a separate power adapter for the soundstation so I do need to use power over ethernet, i.e., the power for the Soundstation must come over the ethernet cabel. The router itself does not have a power over ethernet function, so I must plug a power over ethernet injector between the router and the soundstation, i.e. the connection line is currently: router - cat. 5 cable - power over ethernet injector - cat. 5 cable - soundstation ("Config 1"). Without a power over ethernet injector, the Soundstation does not receive any power. The problem that I have is that the soundstation is not recognized by the router.

My suspicion is that the soundstation at the moment does not recognize the connection to the router because of the power over ethernet injector, i.e. it cannot process the combined stream of data and power. If this is correct, then I would need a power over ethernet splitter which separates data and power. If so, the connection line would be router - cat5 cable - power over ethernet injector - cat. 5 cable - power over ethernet splitter - cat 5 cable/power cable - soundstation ("Config 2"). So my question is: Do I need an addtional POE splitter, i.e. is it Config 1 oder Config 2? If Config 2, what POE splitter should I buy because the power cable of the one that I have does not fit with the soundstation's power plug.

On the IP address, my problem is that the soundstation does not show any ip adress under the TCP menu, but just 0.0.0.0 as the IP address - do you know some solution for this problem?

Thanks so much,

Daniel

Re: POE Splitter Polycom Soundstation IP 6000

Hello sujets2 ,

using the original Polycom PoE Adaptor has no such restrictions.

I would suggest you check that you are using above.

  • The socket that is visible in the picture is to be used to Plug the phone into.

  • The RJ45 End is used to be plugged into the Switch or a floor Port.

Best regards
