Hello all. Looking for some guidance.

I have a 3CX server at a customer site that has  50 Polycom 330 phones and one Polycom 650 phone.

The site was running 3CX version 10 and we used Polycom 3.3.4 firmware with 4.3.1 Bootrom.

All was good.

I upgraded the 3CX server to version 11 sp2 and upgraded the provisioning folder with the suggested Polycom firmware upgrade.

I went with Polycom 4.0.2 firmware with 5.0.2 Bootroom.

The Polycom 650 upgrade just fine but the 330's did not.

From what I read the 330's are now legacy and not supported on the newer firmware.

I got the 650 to boot and register by  using the new firmware in the provisioning folder and once the 650 was up and running I replaced the provisioning folder with the older firmware to keep the 330's happy. The issue now would be that if the 650 is rebooted, it wil see the older firmware in the provisioning folder and NOT boot.

I was going to just do a tftp server for the 650 which would work, however the customer would not be able to change the BLF's, name etc without editing a cfg file. This is less than ideal for the customer.

I did some googleing and found a Polycom tech bulletin 35311 which explains how to support legacy phones but I am not quite grokking the instructions.

Has anyone had success with this type of situation? I really would appreciate if someone could guide me on how to make this work. Needless to say, the system is in production and any downtime expirementing would be frowned upon...

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks!

Hello Anthony,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Utilizing the community search => here <= with the word legacy a few posts returned shown in the result already cover the usage of legacy phones in a mix with newer phones.

In addition the FAQ contains this post here:

May 14, 2012 Question: Can I support a mix of legacy SIP and UCS Phones on the same Provisioning Server?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

When downloading the new UCS 4.x.x Software a prompt ask's the downloading user to confirm the following statement:

1) Before you can successfully install UC Software 4.0.x onto phones running Polycom® UCS released prior to version 4.0.0, you must perform a required upgrade procedure using the Polycom® Upgrader 4.0.0 Utility.

Before you download and install Polycom® UC Software version 4.0.x or higher, Polycom strongly recommends that you review the changes to the upgrade procedures detailed in the Polycom® UC Software 4.0.0 Administrators’ Guide or newer and Engineering Advisory 64731 Polycom® UC Software 4.0.0: Upgrade and Downgrade Methods.

Above shows a link explaining the steps to upgrade or downgrade from / to UCS 4.x.x

  • Upgrading to UCS 4.x.x requires the updater / upgrade.
  • Downgrading from UCS 4.x.x requires the downgrade.
