Once a week we rotate logs for the asterisk switch and when we do this we reload the asterisk service, to clear out any dead channels.  When the asterisk service reloads the 650's buddies stop working.  Once we reboot the phone everything comes back.  The phone is on an older software version, I do not know right off hand what version, so I wonder if that is causing the issue.

Hello Jeffbrux,

 

welcome to the Polycom Community.

 

As a simple explanation the Phone subscribes to the other phones to watch their status. When restarting Asterisk this is no longer valid and the phones need to re-subscribe i.e. what you are doing via restarting the Phone.

Is there a way to reestablish this connection without having to reboot the phone?

Hello Jeffbrux,

 

apart from not starting the Asterisk Server weekly you could possibly utilize a cron job when restarting asterisk to send a Check-Synch to the phones to reboot these as well automatically.

 

The Phone subscribes on boot up to the Presence state of a watched buddy.

 

If this subscription is changed due the Asterisk reboot the Phone is unaware of the new status and will as far as I know boot up again to re-subscribe.
