Background: We have been using the VVX600 phones with the Sennheiser TeamConnect Wireless system. These are basically speaker/microphone pods that can connect via Bluetooth or USB.

We have changed our conference room phones to the Trio 8500 and were told that we could connect these to the phones via Bluetooth. Yes, we connected them however, we could not find a way to switch the audio output from the built-in speaker to the Bluetooth headset. Polycom support would not help, as they only offer VOIP support to their partners and not end users (Polycom lost points in my book for that), the support from the company we bought them from could not figure it and told me to call Polycom. I already knew they would not offer support, as I called them first.

The Vendor then told me to get this feature, I would need to purchase the Trio 8800. I bought a couple off of Amazon. I am still having the same issue. I can pair them via Bluetooth, but cannot use them as headsets. I connect them via USB, and I immediately get a current draw error.

Does anyone know how I can use a Bluetooth headset when it has been paired with the Trio?

Thanks,

Don

Hello @mjxplant,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used UC Software version as issues experienced or a question asked may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes, Administrator Guides or FAQ post’s.

The above is also stated in the "Must Read First" and is the absolute minimum requirement every new post should include. .

In addition providing us with this basic information gives Polycom an idea what Software Versions are used in the field and avoids wasting time trying to troubleshoot issues which have already been addressed.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP or UC Software Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

In addition the Bluetooth implementation on the Trio range is for pairing with mobile phones only.

There was an additional headset sandbox support added in the latest 5.5.4 release but to my knowledge this is only for specific wired headsets.

I suggest you work with a Polycom reseller to add this as a feature request.

Hi @mjxplant

I briefly double checked with Product management and the Trio 8500 and Trio 8800 datasheets list support for the following Bluetooth profiles only:

  • Bluetooth device pairing for wideband speech and multimedia streaming (HFP/AD2P)

Support for the ‘Handset Profile’ (HSP) as expected by the customer is not supported and therefore not advertised on the datasheet.

Who is the reseller that advised this should work?

Best Regards

It was first the Nextiva sales rep, then the Nextiva support team for the 8800 recommendation.

Does Polycom have a conference room style phone that would work? We used to use the IP7000 phones, but could not get them to work there either.

Hello @mjxplant,

The Trio Range are the latest phones. An IP7000 does not have any Bluetooth connectivity.

The Trio 8800 can support more power when connected to a PoE+ switch

The Trio 8800, when the TeamConnect is connected via USB to allow Trio 8800 to maintain full-functionality – see Admin Guide:

https://documents.polycom.com/bundle/trio-ag-5-5-4-AA/page/c_ucs_ag_powering_the_polycom_trio_8800.h...

While Trio 8800 does not support ‘USB battery charging mode, it will still be able to power the connected USB device.

For anything else please work with a Polycom reseller.

Steffen,

I have the Sennheiser connected, I can control the volume from the Sennheiser to adjust it on the 8800. However, I can get audio from the 8800 to the Sennheiser. How on the 8800 do I direct the audio output and input to be the USB-A plug?

Hello @mjxplant,

As already stated this is not an official supported feature so all you could possibly do is to open a feature request.

To my personal knowledge there is at present no way to select another audio output other than the Trio or the TV Speaker when connected to a Visual+.
