I am trying to provision VVX 300/400 phones using a tftp server in my pbx and setting the dhcp server type to Static as the dhcp server cannot do options.  I have config files that I know work from another deployment where I use the DHCP options and an ftp server.  I can make it work but the problem is that Boot Server IP address dissapears from the settings and the second reboot cannot get the configuration.  I have to manually type it in each time.  I have a device.cfg file that is set according to the admin manual with the address.  everything else stays but the IP address of the Boot Server.  Is that normal?  The UC software is 5.0.1.

I obtained this configuration by exporting the device.cfg from a phone configured by using the web GUI.  I have the split files from 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 and they look pretty much the same except for lots of things that i don't ned for my installation.  I tried using one of those files as well but it did the same thing.  I'm sure I am not doing something right.  Thank you for any help you give.

Thank you for attempting to answer my question.  I followed the links that you suggested.  I have read most of this information already.  I have read the white paper on provisioning and the UC 5.0.1 Admin manual as well as some of the previous admin manuals.  All of wich was very helpful and aided me to deploy hundreds of phones.  The last fact has things that I did not know and I made a copy for my files.  However none of this answers my question about why the IP address of the provisioning server dissapears even though it is entered in the device.cfg file and entered via the web GUI or through the phone.  So the next time the phone needs to be rebooted or loses power I have to manually reenter the IP Address.  If you look at the device.cfg file I included the address is plainly there but when you look at the settings via GUI or phone display it is gone.

There can only be 4 possible answers to this question.

1.  Its a bug.

2.  That is the way it is supposed to work.

3.  You are doing it wrong and this is what you did wrong.

4.  I don't know.

I appreciate any help even "I don't know" if that is an honest answer.  I am trying to get set up to go through the certification program because I know there is lots that I don't know.

Hello razz,

the next step is pretty simple. The VVX's are most likely pretty new so they should be well within their warranty.

That enables you, via your Polycom reseller, to raise a ticket with Polycom support.

Razz,

I haven't seen this first hand, but I have spoken with other people who work as high level technical support for other phone companies, and they have seen quite a few cases of this. There is apparently no fix, it's a flash memory issue in the phone, and it requires an RMA.

In the short term they configure the local DHCP server with option 66 so it keeps putting the provisioning details back in the phone automatically every time they disappear.

Hello all,

In order to professionally troubleshoot and verify this we require the individuals to work with their Polycom reseller to bring this to the attention of Polycom support.

Only this way we can ensure that we retrieve individual units and check this in our labs. Without this we are unfortunately unable to do so and fix and potential problems.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.
