Testing resiliency on 331 and 650's.  By default if we have the "B" controllers IP address in the config file in server 2 it will try to connect to that server before connecting to "A".  So I have a few questions below.

  1. Is there a command/line that can be enter in the config files of the Polycom that will set server 2 to not try and register to controller "B"?  We can web into the set and make that change and the set always boots to "A"
  2. Also by having this set to "NO" will that stop the phone from failing over to the "B" controller?

Hello Scott Hall,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used SIP or UC Software version as issues experienced or a question asked may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes, Administrator Guides or FAQ post’s.

The above is also stated in the "Must Read First" and is the absolute minimum requirement every new post should include. .

In addition providing us with this basic information gives Polycom an idea what Software Versions are used in the field and avoids wasting time trying to troubleshoot issues which have already been addressed.

Therefore the Polycom VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Question: How can I find out my SIP or UC Software Version of my Phone?
Resolution: Please check here

There is no command line on the phones and the type of registration you try and use and we support is described => here <=

You could utilize a DNS record with two A records and use a CFG like this:

<failover voIpProt.server.1.address="sip.test"
voIpProt.server.1.retryTimeOut="500"
voIpProt.server.1.retryMaxCount="3"
voIpProt.SIP.tcpFastFailover="1"
voIpProt.SIP.authOptimizedInFailover="1"
voIpProt.SIP.failoverOn503Response="1"
voipProt.server.1.address="sip.test"
voipProt.server.1.port="0"
voipProt.server.1.transport="DNSnaptr"
voipProt.server.1.failOver.reRegisterOn="1"
voipProt.server.1.failOver.onlySignalWithRegistered="1"
voipProt.server.1.failOver.failBack.mode="newRequests"
voipProt.server.1.failOver.failBack.timeout="600"
voipProt.server.1.failOver.failRegistrationOn="1" />

The above has a fixed time of 600 seconds when it tries to register again to the originally registered server.

We are currently on 4.0.8.1972 software.  Does the radial on the attached picture for server 2 need to be set to yes for the failover to work?  We we turn that to yes, it eiher registers right to server 2 or shows registered on the phone but the phone doesn't work.

Hello Scott Hall,

Your software is no longer supported and all testing should be done using UC Software 4.0.12

If you use your configuration aka the linked RROF document you specify 2 servers and the phone will register.

If you use my example using a FQDN aka the DNS the phone will only register to one server and then failover to the other server if it cannot contact the first server.

Checking your credentials you seem to be a phone provider so I suggest you get in touch with a Polycom sales engineer to work on the right configuration.
