Is there a way to program a Soundpoint IP phone to send an RFC2833 Flash event (this is the same thing as sending a DTMF event, but it's the "hook flash" instead)? Can a soft key be programmed to do this or a hard key redefined for this purpose?

On a related topic, is it possible to redefine any of the hard keys on the phone (i.e. could I redefine "hold" to send a DTMF tone, for example)?

I've looked high and low to find information on this. Maybe there's a manual that covers it?

Hello 24x8,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

I can only advise you to always check the FAQ before posting a new topic as the Soft Key and Hardware Key changes are explained in there.

I have never heard of a DTMF Event using SIP that "simulates" a hook flash event like utilized with an analog line and would expect the SIP Server if an analog line is being used to send this Information.

There may be a digit combination that may be used on the SIP Server but you would need to contact the SIP Servers Support Team for this.

I am happy for you to provide the specific section in the RFC2833 that would cover this feature.

Best Regards

Thank you for the quick reply.

Regarding the FAQ, yes, I saw that but was hoping for more information and some specifics. For example, the two postings you cited seem to indicate that this is possible using both UCS and SIP software--true? Also, there are lots of "tech notes", that each discuss a particular item, but what document contains the full list of SIP configuration options?

Regarding the RFC2833 FLASH event, it's defined in the RFC (section 3.10: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2833.txt). It is not required for a "compliant device", but is generally implemented on other SIP devices (like snom and Grandstream). What I'd like to be able to do is create a softkey or redefine a hardkey to send the RFC2833 FLASH event.

Bump... Any thoughts on the flash event?

Hello 24x8,

please do not post "bump" posts !

If we have a reply we will post it.

The Phone Software is currently working as designed and as you mentioned the RFC does not specify that we "must" support this DTMF Flash Event.

If this functionality is stopping you selling our Polycom Phones please work with a Polycom Reseller to bring this to theattention of a Polycom Sales Engineer and provide a business plan so this can be brought forward to a product manager.

Best Regards
