Greetings-  I'm new and stupid.  I can't figure out how to set up directories other than manually, one entry at a time.  As an end user can I use an USB Memory stick to upload contacts?  How, and what is the format??  Thanks greatly.

Hello Hollocker,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

There is no such possibility to add a directory directly to the phone but the community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Jan 6, 2012 Question: How can I create a local directory or what is the 000000000000-directory.xml used for?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above explains the directory structure.

So............  If you work in an environment with 400 employees, each employee must enter 399 contacts manually ????

No, you can setup an active directory or open ldap server and that will centrally create all your contacts.

We setup an openldap server here. Works like a charm. And inexpensive, ubuntu + openldap.

It is sad that the phone simply can't pull from a comma separated values file but what ya gonna do.

Hello Hollocker,

the correct and professional solution would be utilizing something like active directory as a central phonebook.

If this is not suitable for your environment then you would create a 0000000000000-directory.xml and provide this on first bootup.

The phones will then store their individual files if changes or modifications are made.

The FAQ post I provided contains a link to automate the creation of the 0000000000000-directory.xml and based on other example scripts that I also posted in the development section could be used to provide each phone with its own directory.
